Chhapaak: Deepika Padukone To Be Honoured By Madhya Pradesh Government At IIFA Awards Post Making It Tax-Free

Meghna Gulzar's Chhapaak was one of the most-talked-about films, not for the serious social message it caries but for political reasons. Ever since Deepika showed support and stood in solidarity with Jawaharlal Nehru University’s President Aishe Ghosh who was attacked on campus by masked men, the lady got into bad books of a certain section of people who even planned to boycott Chhapaak which released on January 10. Boycott Deepika was also trending on Twitter, all of this, just a few days before her film’s release.

However, after the release of Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey starrer, Twitterverse is lauding the makers for the film. Deepika has added another achievement in her list as it is reported that the actress will be honoured by Madhya Pradesh Government during International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA). A report in Latestly states that the awards ceremony is to be hosted by the state and Deepika will be felicitated. Capital Bhopal and the state commercial hub Indore will be the venues for the awards ceremony in March. Now, that's a big deal, right? Meanwhile, Chhapaak is tax-free in MP.

Apart from that, Congress has also declared the film tax-free in congress led states in India. Only yesterday, we had reported that Samajwadi party people are going to watch the film because their president Akhilesh Yadav has always shown his support to the acid-attack survivors. While Congress too backs this film and have put up posters supporting the film and urging people to watch it.

Chhapaak is based on the real-life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal who went through this horrific incident and through her story, the film makes an attempt to understand the on-ground consequences of surviving an acid attack in India. The film shows Malti’s struggle and how she fights for justice with the help of her friend Vikrant Massey. Deepika plays Malti in the film, who was attacked with acid on a street in New Delhi, in 2005.
